Abstract

As the key component of language proficiency, English vocabulary learning may be a challenge for learners, particularly through using mobile devices. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the Kurdish university students' attitudes towards the effectiveness of using mobile dictionary in the process of English vocabulary learning. It then introduces the key challenges that learners face in using mobile dictionary for learning English vocabulary. In this quantitative research, a survey was used as a research strategy by means of questionnaire method for the purpose of data collection. Furthermore, the participants were purposively selected and they were forty students in the departments of English, Sociology and Psychology in Faculty of Arts at Soran University. In spite of facing some challenges, the findings of this study demonstrated that the English learners have a positive attitude towards the use of mobile dictionary in learning vocabulary since it enables them to enrich their vocabulary effectively.
